SINE is determined that Indiana will have a future unrestrained by a lack of opportunity for the attainment of knowledge. Developing and supporting efforts that address adult learning are critical to making that vision a reality.
The ultimate result of a community-wide emphasis on adult learning will be an adult population that will have a major impact on the ability to attract and retain high-skill, high-wage employers in Southwest Indiana. The resultant increase in the standard of living will, in turn, perpetuate a culture for learning in our region.
To this end, SINE encourages grass roots development of strategic adult learning plants at the county level; allows for development of regional approaches to issues that are common to several communities, as identified in their local planning processes; and facilitates training opportunities for local providers of adult literacy and education services.
Emphasis is placed on developing new adult learning opportunities of high intensity and duration or enhancing existing programs available to adults in each county. Partners in these efforts include, but are not limited to, literacy organizations, businesses, workforce development offices, community organizations, Chambers of Commerce, public libraries, providers of family and children services, and secondary and post-secondary education institutions.
