Business/Workforce Programs
The Learning Exchange

“In order to stay competitive in the global economy, employers need workers who can read, write, compute, solve problems, and communicate well.” National Institute for Literacy, Workforce Literacy Fact Sheet, August 2000

Businesses rely on a workforce that has a proven ability to adapt and learn new skills.  One way to achieve this is to focus on creating a culture in which each student currently in the K-12 education system develops a commitment to lifelong learning.

For adults already in the workforce, workplace educational programs focusing on literacy and other job-related training can provide workers with the skills they need to get or retain a job, advance in their careers, or increase productivity.

Participating in employer-sponsored or supported workplace educational programs certainly enhances the individual’s quality of life and reduces reliance on unemployment and other tax-supported social services.

For the employer, this also means enhanced worker productivity and job satisfaction, which in turn reduces work-related injuries and job turnover, reducing businesses’ healthcare outlay and costs associated with recruiting and training new employees.
