Physics teacher Marilyn Rogers knew that her students would benefit from working with NSWC Crane. During the project, students performed projectile experiments thus predicting where a projectile would land. It may sound complicated, but the engineers and physicists at Crane know how important extreme accuracy is. This application tied together both math and science to reach perfection.
Look around, almost everything you see is manufactured! With the help of Jasper Engines tooling division "Indiana Tooling" Mark Scott's students were able to learn more about setting up and operating the CNC equipment. Of course, problem solving and precision are extremely necessary while using manufacturing equipment. The greater benefit is industry working with schools to create skilled workforce employees.
Entering their 4th year of Project Lead the Way courses, the students of Davis Cunningham were ready for a real world challenge. And Berry Plastics was just the partner! Given a real situation and the guidance of a Berry engineer (and past Reitz HS grad), student teams researched an assigned project then made presentations of the results and proposed solutions.
The students in Sherry Dockery's Marketing class partnered with Kate Baumgartner of Evansville FCU to learn the process of creating direct mail pieces and how to manage personal finances.
Jody French of Perry Central High School gave her students a first-hand look at the skills, background, and teamwork required in the engineering and maintenance positions at Jasper Engines & Transmissions.
Davis Cunningham partnered with representatives from ALCOA Corporation to assist/mentor Reitz seniors with their Engineering Design and Development capstone course for Project Lead The Way.
Nikki Nalley of Pike Central Middle School partnered with TMMI to give students a glimpse at the myriad of applications for robotics in manufacturing environments. Students then held a competition in which they designed, built, and programmed their own robots.
Mary Traylor's Advanced Placement Human Geography class visited Core Minerals and learned the ways in which GPS maps are created with Smart Boards, and how these maps and energy production relate to Geography.
