The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of standardized, individually administered measures of early literacy development. This 2-day workshop introduces you to the DIBELS measures designed to test fluency in the following areas: First Sounds, Letter Naming, Phoneme Segmentation, Nonsense Words, Oral Reading, and Daze. Learn the proper methods to administer the DIBELS test and record your data for determining your students’ reading levels.
This workshop is presented by Amber Oakley, recognized by Dynamic Measurement Group as an authorized trainer of DIBELS Next.
CIE After Hours: This workshop is also available as 2 After Hours sessions.
Educators will learn how to use DIBELS assessment data to create instructional groups and to plan data-informed interventions to help students obtain the highest levels of early reading achievement. It will focus on Phonological Awareness and Letter Recognition (First Sound Fluency FSF, Phoneme Segmentation Fluency PSF, Oral Reading Fluency ORF, and Letter Naming Fluency LNF).

This program is a new, multi-sensory, phonemic based reading program designed for K-3 students. This research-based program uses mnemonic, visual, auditory, and tactile/kinesthetic modalities for instruction. Mr. Gossom was selected to pilot this program four years ago and now offers a workshop to train teachers to use the program. Mr. Gossom reports that it is the best multi-sensory phonics program that he has ever used in forty years of teaching. SINE has been given permission by Sharon Weiss-Kapp to distribute the program to schools. For a small fee, teachers can attend this workshop for a full day of training and leave with a copy of the program to use. The program is provided on CD-ROM so teachers can make as many copies as they like. Mrs. Weiss-Kapp just asks that copies not be shared between schools. This program is excellent to use for interventions; it can supplement any reading program; or it can be used as a stand-along instructional method. Children love Kapp Reading Instruction because the lessons are fun and memorable, and the multi-sensory techniques allow each student to learn and remember letter/word sounds that are presented using his/her preferred learning style.
This workshop consists of “Make and Take” materials to be used in the classroom for remediation/enrichment of the core Language Arts and Mathematics standards in the elementary classroom. Ideal for teachers in grades 2-5. Teachers in 6th grade middle school classrooms will also find application from the materials. Ideas and supplies will be provided to help you create simple, effective activities for your students. Participants are encouraged to bring their Math and English textbooks.
CIE After Hours: This workshop is also available as 2 After Hours sessions.
This two-day training is very beneficial for all K-5 teachers and upper grade teachers that are responsible for students’ reading progress. It will enable teachers to use fun and exciting, multi-sensory activities for teaching letter recognition and formation, phonics, sight word recognition and spelling, syllabication, reading fluency, and vocabulary. Participants will learn ways to properly asses each student’s preferred learning styles and activities to cater to each of the different learning modalities, which is the foundation of effective multi-sensory instruction. Popular reading programs, techniques, and tests will be discussed and demonstrated. Plus, by popular request, teachers will have the opportunity to discuss children that exhibit reading problems and receive professional advice from Mr. Gossom and fellow teachers. After attending this workshop you will be much more knowledgeable and prepared to teach necessary reading skills to ALL students!
This training will examine reading strategies that improve students’ comprehension when reading in the content areas. Participants will understand that teaching reading in their discipline is really teaching the content. Participants will use fix-it strategies that help readers comprehend text as well as understand the necessary process skills involved in reading comprehension.
